Candle Care

Trail & Ember Candle Care

At Trail & Ember, we craft each candle to ignite the spirit of adventure, hand-poured with care during our RV journeys. To ensure your candle burns safely, lasts longer, and fills your space with the essence of the open road, follow these care tips inspired by our nomadic lifestyle.

Preparation for Burning

  • Trim the Wick: Before each burn, trim the wick to 1/4 inch to ensure a clean, even burn, minimize soot, and extend your candle’s life.

  • Stable, Heat-Resistant Surface: Place your candle on a level, heat-resistant surface like a candle mat, trivet, or its lid (if stable) to protect surfaces from heat.

  • Check for Stability: Ensure the candle is secure to prevent tipping, especially in RVs or outdoor settings where movement is common.

Burning Best Practices

  • First Burn Matters: Allow the wax to melt fully to the edges during the first burn to prevent tunneling and ensure an even burn throughout the candle’s life (20–50 hours depending on size).

  • Limit Burn Time: Burn for no longer than 4 hours at a time to prevent overheating the container and preserve the fragrance quality of scents like Black Hills Bloom or Cozy Campsite.

  • Avoid Drafts: Keep candles away from drafts, vents, or open windows to ensure even burning, reduce flickering, and maintain optimal burn time.

Safe Extinguishing

  • Proper Extinguishing: Use a candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame. Never use the lid to smother the flame, as this can trap smoke and affect the scent.

  • Cool Before Handling: Allow the candle to cool completely before moving or storing to avoid burns or spills, especially in compact RV spaces.

Safety Precautions

  • Keep Out of Reach: Place candles away from children, pets, flammable objects, or anything that could pose a fire hazard.

  • Never Leave Unattended: Always stay present while the candle is burning, whether at home, in an RV, or at a campsite.

  • Stop at 1/2 Inch of Wax: Discontinue use when 1/2 inch of wax remains to prevent overheating the container and ensure safe use.

  • Store Safely: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the fragrance and wax quality during your travels.

Pro Tips for Nomads

  • RV-Friendly Use: In an RV, place candles on a stable, non-slip surface to account for movement, and store securely when not in use to keep your space adventure-ready.

  • Reuse and Recycle: Once the candle has burned down to 1/2 inch of wax, clean out the eco-friendly glass jar or tin and repurpose it for storing travel essentials like matches, herbs, or mementos.

  • Relive the Journey: Light your Black Hills Bloom or Cozy Campsite candle to spark memories of sunset hikes, starlit campfires, or peaceful mornings by the lake, bringing the open road to life.

Commitment to Quality and Safety

  • Non-Toxic and Allergy-Friendly: Crafted with 100% U.S.-grown soy wax and phthalate- and paraben-free fragrance oils, our candles are safe for sensitive users and eco-conscious adventurers.

  • Hand-Poured Craftsmanship: Each candle is hand-poured in small batches during our RV travels, ensuring artisanal quality and a touch of nomadic spirit.

  • Quality-Tested Performance: Every candle is tested for consistent burn and fragrance performance, delivering a reliable, adventure-inspired experience.
