Candle Care, Soy Behavior & Burn Tips

How long should I burn my candle each time?

For best results, burn your candle for 2–4 hours at a time. This helps the wax melt evenly to the edges and prevents tunneling.

Why shouldn’t I burn my candle in a drafty area?

Drafts from open windows, fans, vents, or busy walkways can cause the flame to flicker or lean to one side. This can lead to:

  • Uneven melting and tunneling
  • Mushrooming of the wick
  • More soot or smoke
  • Reduced overall burn time

Burning in a stable environment helps the flame stay centered and ensures your candle burns cleanly and evenly.

What is “power burning” and why shouldn’t I do it?

“Power burning” means burning a candle for more than 4 hours at a time. This can cause:

  • The jar to become too hot
  • The wick to mushroom or flare
  • Excess soot and smoke
  • Overconsumption of wax, shortening candle life
  • Fragrance oils to overheat, reducing scent quality

For safety and performance, extinguish your candle after 4 hours, let it cool and reset, then relight if desired.

How should I trim a cotton wick?

Before each burn, trim your cotton wick to about ¼ inch. This helps your candle burn cleanly, reduces soot, and prevents the flame from getting too large.

Why does my candle look “wet” through the glass? (wet spots)

Those “wet spots” are areas where the wax has slightly pulled away from the glass. This is completely normal with natural waxes like soy and coconut-apricot. It happens when the wax expands and contracts with temperature changes. It’s purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect how the candle burns or how it smells.

Why do I see white frosting on my soy candle?

Frosting is a natural characteristic of soy wax and a sign that it’s a natural, additive-free wax. Tiny crystals can form as the candle cools or responds to temperature shifts, creating a frosted or cloudy look. It does not affect scent throw or performance.

Why does the top look bumpy or textured after burning?

Bumpy, cratered, or slightly uneven tops are common with natural soy wax. As the wax cools and sets, it can create a bit of texture. This is normal and does not affect how your candle burns.

Why is my flame too high or too low?

Flame too high: Blow out the candle, trim the wick to ¼ inch, and relight.
Flame too low: Cotton wicks sometimes need time to establish. Let it burn for 30–60 minutes to develop a full melt pool. If it remains very weak, you can gently pour off a small amount of melted wax into a safe container (once cooled, discard) and relight.

Why is my candle tunneling?

Tunneling happens when the candle isn’t burned long enough for the wax to melt to the edges. To prevent this:

  • Burn for 2–4 hours at a time
  • Allow the wax to reach the edge of the jar on each burn
  • Keep the wick trimmed to ¼ inch

If tunneling starts, a few longer burns may help even out the wax.

Why is the wax pulling away from the sides of the jar?

This is related to wet spots and temperature changes. Natural waxes like soy tend to contract as they cool, which can cause a slightly uneven look at the glass. It’s cosmetic only and won’t affect performance.

What kind of wax do you use?

We use natural soy and coconut-apricot waxes, chosen for their clean burn, beautiful appearance, and excellent scent performance.

Do your candles contain paraffin?

No. Our candles are made without paraffin.

Are your candles non-toxic?

Yes. We use clean-burning natural waxes, phthalate-free fragrance oils, and lead-free cotton wicks with no paraffins, parabens, or harmful additives.

How long will my candle last?

Burn time depends on the size and your burn habits, but as a general guide:

  • 7.5–8 oz jars: around 40–45 hours
  • Travel tins: around 25–30 hours

Keeping the wick trimmed and avoiding drafts will help maximize burn time.

How should I store my soy candles?

Store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Excess heat or sun can cause discoloration, frosting, or surface sweating on natural wax — all normal, but best minimized with proper storage.
